St. John’s Head Coach Mike Anderson
On the atmosphere of the foreign tour finale…
“I saw our guys go out there and play with energy. They were having fun. From the starters until the last guy off the bench, I thought they played for each other. There was energy in the building, we had a great crowd.”
On the team visiting the Dominican Republic…
“The process of bringing them over here was a reward for all the hard work they have done this summer. Not only that, our team got the chance to build comradery and we’ll continue to do that over the next few days.
“I think one of the bright spots was for us to be an ambassador for St. John’s University in two of our guys [Joel Soriano and David Jones] home country. We held a clinic at David’s home court and had the chance to go see one of the all-time greats from St. John’s, Felipe [Lopez].We got to share our spirit.”
On what he saw from his younger players…
“Everyone got the chance to come over here and get their feet wet. It was a new stage for [freshmen] Kolby King and AJ Storr. I thought those guys played real well. [Rafael] Pinzon, a guy that missed a lot of time last year, we saw bright moments from him. Mohamed Keita got out there and was being active. It helps in the process of what it’s going to take. They played against men tonight, not boys, and stood toe-to-toe.”
On what the team will take from this…
“Our guys never stopped playing and it’s something that we will build on in the fall. I think we have the chance to have a special year.”
