Ring of Honor’s “Death Before Dishonor” Pay-Per-View event comes to us Live this Saturday, July 23rd, 2022, from the Tsongas Center in Lowell, MA, at 8 pm on Bleacher Report. The experts on the Eastern Observer’s “Essential Wrestling Podcast,” sponsored by ProWrestlingPickem.com, are picking for the following this event.
**RoH World Championship**
**Champion JONATHAN GRESHAM vs CLAUDIO CASTAGNOLI**
“They just put together this crew that is very Horsemen-esk. You got a ‘you can’t believe it!’ technician as World Champion. A pair of killers in the Gates of Agony. You got Brian Cage to be your enforcer. You got Tully to be the brains and the guy to throw Fuji-dust and trip people from the outside. Gresham has gone all over the world representing Ring of Honor and very, very well presenting himself as the Ring of Honor Champion. Everything says he should retain! But I think this is where the ‘mark’ in TK (Tony Kahn) messes up the booker and the businessman in TK. And I don’t blame him for this! Just look at last week. You put Claudio in the ring with Jake Hager, and you had to point out that Jake Hager was a former World Heavyweight Champion, and Claudio’s never been. I think this is a ‘Make Right’ match. You get that name in the World Champions of Ring of Honor lineage. I think Claudio Castagnoli is your Champion at the end of this.” – John D’Aconti, EWP correspondent.
Pick: CLAUDIO CASTAGNOLI
“I think since they’re starting back up, they’ll want a recognizable champion.” – John Smith, EWP correspondent.
Pick: CLAUDIO CASTAGNOLI
**RoH Tag Team Championship (Two-Out-Of-Three Falls)**
**Champions FTR vs. THE BRISCOES**
“I got the Briscoes winning this one. They’re the Tommy Dreamer of Ring of Honor” – John Smith, EWP correspondent.
Pick: THE BRISCOES
“I thought the Briscoes were signed by Impact, and they’re in the match because they were just announced in the first-ever class of Ring of Honor Hall of Fame inductees. So I’m going to be safe and say FTR retains. I don’t know when they will launch a weekly TV show, but I feel FTR has got to lead that charge.” – Al Karl, EWP host.
Pick: FTR
**RoH Women’s Championship**
**Champion MERCEDES MARTINEZ vs SERENA DEEB**
“This is something to build around. I have Mercedes retaining, but nowhere near the end of the story for these two.” – John D’Aconti, EWP correspondent.
Pick: MERCEDES MARTINEZ
“This will be great to put over Mercedes Martinez! We’ve seen Serena Deeb with a belt that’s not AEW, and then she just competed in the greatest AEW Women’s Championship match in the company’s short history at Double or Nothing. Deeb has nothing to gain by winning the title. This is all about making Mercedes a legitimate Champion.”
Pick: MERCEDES MARTINEZ
**RoH Television Championship**
**Champion SAMOA JOE vs. JAY LETHAL**
“I’m going to go with Samoa Joe on this one. He’s by far the superior wrestler.” – John Smith, EWP correspondent.
Pick: SAMOA JOE
“Jay Lethal is synonymous with Ring of Honor. And I think he’ll be able to work a more rigorous schedule cause Joe is a little older and keeps getting hurt. I’m going to say that put that title back on Jay Lethal, which seems like it’s been around his waist for most of his career, and that way, they’ll get a lot more mileage out of Lethal as a Champion.” – John D’Aconti, EWP correspondent.
Pick: JAY LETHAL
“It was announced that Jay Lethal will be a part of Ric Flair’s final match. So that would be good exposure for Ring of Honor to wear that belt down the aisle.” – Al Karl, EWP host.
Pick: JAY LETHAL
**RoH PURE Championship**
**Champion WHEELER YUTA vs. DANIEL GARCIA**
“I think this one will be a hell of a match! These two are exactly on the same level. Both up-and-comers. Both are very, very talented. Both were just waiting to break out. But I think Yuta retains here. I don’t see any reason to take the belt off him.” – John D’Aconti, EWP correspondent.
Pick: WHEELER YUTA
“Keep the belt in the (Blackpool) Combat Club, cause then you can have the club in both promotions.” – John Smith, EWP correspondent.
Pick: WHEELER YUTA
