Just as the New York Yankees showed us the damage they could do, their struggles with inconstancy have returned. Monday night in Baltimore was the epitome of a sluggish team that was unprepared for a baseball game.
The Orioles struck in the first two innings, giving them a 2-0 lead by New York’s third round of at-bats. The Yankees finally found some life in the top of the sixth, where Aaron Judge doubled, driving in Giancarlo Stanton. Cedric Mullins sent another ball over the center-field wall for his second home run of the game in the bottom of the seventh. The homer gave Baltimore a 4-1 lead. The Yankees posted just one more run the rest of the way, which came in the top of the eighth inning.
As we always ask, where is the effort, energy, and accountability? The sluggish Yankees were no match for Mullins and the O’s. The two teams meet again on Tuesday for the second game of this four-game set. First pitch is set for 7:05 PM Eastern Time.
