As first reported by the New York Islanders, veteran defenseman Johnny Boychuk will be retiring in relation to the eye injury he received earlier this year. The 38-year-old defender has two remaining years on his current contract, with a $6 million cap hit through 2021-22. As first reported by Arthur Staple, Boychuks “playing career has come to conclusion but will not be formally retiring. He could end up on the LTIR list but will remain with the organization until his contract has expired”.
