After a frankly pathetic showing from the New York Islanders on Thursday night, the boys in blue and orange seemed to start much better against the same old Boston Bruins.
Despite being the better team in the first period, New York found themselves down 1-0 at intermission after David Pastrnak netted one with less than three seconds to go. The Bruins posted another goal in the second, this one coming from a Taylor Hall re-direct past Isles goaltender Ilya Sorokin.
New York’s power-play was anemic, getting nothing done and being shut down by Boston’s penalty killers. The Isles would not score a goal all night. Curtis Lazar scored his first goal as a Bruin and sealed the game with his empty-net tally. Boston took the second game of the back-to-back 3-0. Young B’s goaltender Jeremy Swayman picked up his first career shutout and was lights out against the Isles on Friday night.
Both Sorokin and Semyon Varlamov have been great, yet the team in front of them has been horrendous. The goalies have done their job while receiving relatively no help from the team in front of them. The Isles look to stop the bleeding and get back on track, taking on an imploding Philadelphia Flyers team in Philly on Sunday. Puck drop is set for 6:30 PM Eastern Time, with the game being televised by NBCSN.
