JAMAICA, NY – More help is on the way for head coach Mike Anderson and the St. John’s Red Storm, as College of Charleston and Pearl River Community College product Isaih Moore announced back in November, that he committed to play in Queens for the upcoming 2020-21 season.
Moore, a 6-10 forward, from Columbia, SC, began his college career at the College of Charleston during the 2018-19 season, where he appeared in 11 games. Averaged 2.8 points-per-game, and grabbed 2.1 rebounds-per-game. He would tally his career high of 13 points against Presbyterian College.
Following his time at College of Charleston, Moore would transfer to the JUCO level, and play for Pearl River Community College in North Poplarville, Mississippi. He would play in 28 games, where he started in 15 of those. During the 2019-20 shortened season, Moore would rank second on the team averaging 15.9 points-per-game, and etch 28 into the scorebook on January 30 against Copiah-Lincoln Community College. The team would go undefeated before the season was subsequently cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The total statistics for Moore are as follows: Averaged 20.1 minutes-per-game. Converted 54.3% from the field (159-293). Added 11 triples in 38 total attempts (28.9%). Grabbed 255 total rebounds, 171 on the defensive, and 84 on the offensive. (Something the Red Storm greatly improved on thanks to the likes of Josh Roberts (5.8 RPG) and Julien Champagnie (6.5 RPG) from the Chris Mullin era) Additionally, he would average 2.1 blocks per game in JUCO.
During his time at Pearl River Community College, Moore would study sports broadcasting. Prior to college as a whole, he would be the 87th ranked power-forward in the nation according to 247sports.com. Coming out of high school, he would be recruited by the likes of fellow Big East school, Marquette. Along with Georgia, Clemson, North Carolina, Wake Forest, and South Carolina.
Following the addition of Moore to Queens, head coach Mike Anderson has successfully added four-star point-guard and Bronx native Posh Alexander, along with the addition of teammate and 6-4 shooting guard Dylan Addae-Wusu. Both played high school ball at Our Savior Lutheran. Another addition for the Johnnies includes South Carolina native and fellow JUCO product, Vincent Cole from USC Salkehatchie.
The Red Storm will lose Mustapha Heron, Justin Cole, Nick Rutherford, and Thomas O’Connell to graduation. The four additions will look to play an integral part in the rebuild on Utopia Parkway, but will not be easy to replace a pair of starters in Heron and Rutherford. Playing in 21 games before season-ending surgery, Heron averaged a career-low 13.8 points-per-game. Starting in 23 games was Monmouth transfer, Nick Rutherford, who led the team with 98 total assists, and averaging 3.2 per-contest.
The emergence of Chris Mullin product, Marcellous Earlington, who was apart of the 23-0 historic comeback against Georgetown in the Big East Tournament last week, will potentially form a three-headed monster in the front court with Moore, and upcoming senior Josh Roberts.
The height of Moore (6-10) will be the tallest student-athlete on the roster since Tariq Owens during the 2017-18 season under previous head coach Chris Mullin. The aforementioned would graduate and take his talents to play for Chris Beard and the Red Raiders of Texas Tech for one season.
