Islanders Edge: Strong start not enough in Isles’ 3rd period collapse

After two monumental wins against their rival, the New York Islanders are back to their previous form after another subpar effort in Buffalo on Monday night.

With a playoff spot clinched, another abysmal effort was not expected after the Isles seemingly were getting hot at the right time.

The boys in blue and orange started well, jumping out to a 2-0 lead. In the third period, a lead that should have been held resulted in four unanswered Buffalo goals. The Isles ls 4-2.

With the start the Islanders had, this was an unacceptable loss. While they have already clinched a playoff spot, seeding and home-ice advantage are very important. Losses in games that should easily be won are disappointing, unacceptable, and potentially harmful down the stretch and in the playoffs.

The Isles take on the Sabres for the second game of their back-to-back in Buffalo on Tuesday night. Puck drop is set for 7:00 PM Eastern Time.
