At first, nothing went right for the sleepy New York Islanders on Sunday in Philadelphia. However, their young stud goaltender, Ilya Sorokin, kept things completely scoreless.
New York was outplayed in the second period but did show some life. Once again, Sorokin did his job and stopped every puck thrown his way.
The third period was another scoreless one, but at least interesting. New York outshot Philly 13-6 in the final regulation frame but couldn’t beat Flyers goalie Brian Elliott.
For the sixth time in this season’s series, the Islanders and Flyers needed extra time to settle things. 2:23 into the extra session, Nick Leddy got a fortunate bounce off Travis Sanheim’s stick. Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Jordan Eberle were credited with assists. The Isles and Sorokin continued their recent dominance against the Flyers, and they needed this one badly after a rough trip to Boston.
The boys and blue and orange need to get rested and healthy for a massive game against the New York Rangers on Tuesday. Puck drop is set for 7:00 PM Eastern Time.
