Both Dalvin Cook and Kirk Cousins are walking away with awards bestowed upon them by the NFL this week.
Dalvin Cook, who was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Month, is coming off of a tremendous five game span that saw him carry the Vikings to a 4-1 record during the month of November. He would go on to score seven touchdowns and accumulate 832 yards from scrimmage in those five games. Not only was that a franchise record for scrimmage yards in a month, but that also was the fourth most by any player during a month in league history.
It all started on the first of the month when the Vikings traveled to Green Bay for a must win game against the Packers. Cook, who was coming off of an injury, would go on to become the first player in NFL history to have over 200 scrimmage yards and score four touchdowns at Lambeau Field. He would then go on to follow that up with a 206-yard rushing performance against the Detroit Lions. During both of those weeks, Cook held the honor of NFC Player of the Week. This was the first time a player held the award consecutively since Ryan Fitzpatrick did so in the first two weeks of the 2018 season.
This was the first time a Viking has won NFC Offensive Player of the Month since Kirk Cousins held the award during the month of October in 2019. Cook is also the fourth Viking to hold the honor during Mike Zimmer’s tenure as head coach. The other three were, of course, Kirk Cousins in 2019, Case Keenum in 2017 and Adrian Peterson in 2015.
Coming off of a tremendous performance against the Carolina Panthers, in which he threw for 307 yards and three touchdowns, Kirk Cousins was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week. Cousins has been on a tear as of late and easily posted his best performance of the season this past week after leading the Vikings to a come from behind win in a must win game.
Down six with under two minutes to play, Cousins pulled off one of the most impressive drives of his career, completing six of seven passes for 75 yards and the game winning score.
This was Cousins’ fifth consecutive game with a passer rating higher than 100 and helped him finish November with an NFL best passer rating of 124.3.
The two players brought in three of the five NFC Player of the Week honors in November, and four of the six overall honors for the month of November.
The Vikings will be taking on the Jacksonville Jaguars this Sunday, the 6th, at 12:00 PM CST/1:00 PM EST on CBS.
